They have worked on major schemes for new settlements close to Cambridge and Exeter on expansion proposals within the growth areas of Milton Keynes, Ashford, Basingstoke and Kettering and on new community developments in Fareham. They are skilled in structuring, managing, facilitating and hosting a variety of collaborative stakeholder planning and design processes. They have extensive expertise in working with a wide variety of participants to influence master planning proposals, urban design coding and development frameworks. They have recently provided urban design training for local authorities and have carried out collaborative stakeholder consultations for a large number of private and public sector clients.
Dr Tom Medcalf BA, Dip Arch, Dip & MA UD, PhD, FRSA Tom is an architect and urban designer with extensive
experience in private practice during which he has worked on major city planning and urban design projects
including the Cathedral Quarter at Harbourside, Bristol. He lectures part time and carries out research at The Joint
Centre for Urban Design (JCUD), Oxford Brookes University with a specialisation in the urban regeneration of market
towns within a regional socio-economic spatial structure. Tom was an enabler for CABE working in the
5 CLG Growth Areas. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Dr Jon Cooper BA, MA, Dip UD, CTHE, PhD, MLI Jon is a landscape architect and urban designer with over 20 years
experience of working with both the public and private sectors. He has been the Chair and most recently the
Director of the Joint Centre for Urban Design at Oxford Brookes University. Prior to this he was principal landscape
architect with Birmingham City Council's Design Services. He has won Secured by Design and BDI awards for the
design of housing and public space schemes. Jon continues to lecture part time at Oxford Brookes University and
has been a regular contributor on design as part of the RTPI's annual conference programme.
